I can only imagine what they could do with it if this was remade today. First off I would like to say that when I initially bought the game I couldnt get it to run, I have win XP, and even though the game is supposed to be compatable I thought that was the problem. The game would install and run alright but I wasnt getting sound or the movie sequences which are essential to completing the puzzles.

Then I discovered the solution to the problem, to make the game work properly simply uninstall any version of quiktime you currently have and install the version that comes with the game, apparently there are compatability issues with later versions of quiktime.

After I did that the game ran with no problems. The story is sequal to the books by John Saul which I havent read, I would recomend reading them first as the beginning of the game likely spoils the ending of the books for you.

Oh well. The main character’s voice acting leaves something to be desired. He is in a strange and scary situation, his son has been abducted, he doesnt know if he is losing his mind, and he talks as if he is completely bored by the whole thing! The part of his father however is acted superbly, and the few other characters you interact with in the game were also well done.

The puzzles are logical, mainly inventory based, pixal hunting is kept to a minimum, the interface was easy to use. There are a few timed sequences where you can die but the game allows you to restart at the beginning of the puzzle with the option of a trying again, it even offers a hint or the solution to the puzzle if you need it. Very nice. The game takes place in an old insane asylum turned into a museum.

There are exhibits set up in every room describing the treatments used on the patients, very chilling information considering these things were actually done to people in an effort to “cure” them.

Maybe more then I wanted to know about the conditions people enduered in institutions in the past. Interesting though. The game world isnt all that large and there are some areas you arent ever allowed to enter but what there is is interesting and towards the end sometimes rather gruesome.
